WordPress Security

1. Upgrade to the newest version of WordPress

I would look up known vulnerabilities in old versions of WordPress. Then I would scan the web looking for sites that are running an old version of WordPress that I know has a hole in it. I would automate the whole process. Once my automated script finds your blog running an old WordPress version, I would simply drop right in through the hole that security databases have known about for months or even years.
You can stop me from doing this by upgrading to the latest version of WordPress which is version 3.2.1 at the time of this writing.

2. Upgrade all your themes and plugins to their newest versions

In case you’re running the newest WordPress, I would look at your themes and plugins. I would try to find an old version of a theme with a known hole in it. Then I would drop right in and have my evil way with your server.

3. Get rid of the ‘admin’ user

10 awesome ways to use a USB

1. Lock and unlock your computer, secret agent style
With Predator, you can turn your USB drive into a "key" that unlocks your computer when plugged in, and locks it when it's removed. If anyone attempts to access your computer without the key (or top-secret password), they'll be hit with an epic "ACCESS DENIED" message.
2. Revive a virus-ridden system With the free AVG rescue software loaded on your USB drive, you can scan a crippled computer for viruses. And, if all goes well, bring your system back to life.
3. Run portable apps, games, and utilities
What's more portable than a laptop, tablet, or smartphone? Answer: a USB flash drive. Run applications like Firefox, Chrome, OpenOffice, and more, with just your USB flash drive and any computer.

Lock and unlock your computer with a USB drive.

If you prevent access to your computer with just a password, you are missing out on an alternate (and more secure) way to lock down your computer.
Predator, a free Windows program, turns your USB drive into a key that locks your computer when it's removed. To unlock your computer, you'll have to plug the USB drive back in. (Talk about having secret-agent-style security.)
Anyone who attempts to access your computer without the USB flash drive will be hit with an epic "Access Denied" message. To get started, follow this guide:
Step 1: Download and install Predator.
Step 2: Once Predator launches, plug in your USB flash drive. None of the contents of the drive will be deleted or altered in any way, so feel free to use your primary thumbdrive.
When you insert the drive, a dialog box will appear asking you to create a password. Click OK to continue.
Step 3: In the Preferences window,

5 Useful Terminal Commands You Can Use More Than Once [Mac & Linux]

SSH

This can be used to securely remotely login to another device which has remote login enabled. It is commonly used to login to jailbroken iPhones and send files. It is also used to repair computers without a display attached or to make sure they are still working. SSH can also be used to tunnel web traffic.
If you’re on OS X, you must make sure that remote login is turned on in the computer you want to remotely login to. You can do this by going to the Sharing pane in System Preferences, then ticking the “Remote Login” checkbox. Note down the bit in quotes after, “To log in to this computer remotely…”

Clean Up Your Computer With An Automated Script

What This Script Will Accomplish

This Windows script is going to run the required tools in command line mode. Many of these tools that you’ve been using for years, you may not have even realized that there isa command-line mode available.

Clean Up Registry & Temp Folders

The first step is probably the most important. We’re going to launch CCleaner in command line mode to clean up temp files and the registry.
One catch. In order to make this script work without constant notifications about the apps making computer changes, you’ll have to disable the User Account Control windows feature in Windows 7.
Now you’re ready to roll. Create a file called CleanComputer.wsf and start it off with the following script.
<job>
<script language="VBScript">

Reformat Your FAT32 Drive To NTFS

You may not know it, but choosing the right filesystem for your drives is actually pretty important. Although the main idea of all filesystems is the same, there are many advantages and disadvantages with each one.
While there are lots of filesystems out there, we’ll be looking at the most popular two, FAT32 and NTFS.

About the Filesystems

FAT32

FAT32 used to be the default filesystem for many of the older, non-NT versions of Windows, such as Windows 95, 98, and ME. The original FAT specification was introduced in 1980, while the compatible FAT32 specification was introduced in 1996. More recently, an incompatible exFAT specification has been introduced that is meant to replace the use of the old FAT.

NTFS

Meanwhile, NTFS (or “New Technology File System”) was introduced in 1993, but has received many improvements over the years along with newer operating systems. While it is not used for removable storage (where FAT-type filesystems are prevalent), it is the best choice for

Block Only Facebook Games & Apps On Your Network

How To Block Facebook Games

There are multiple approaches you can take to block Facebook games. The first involves blocking specific Facebook applications that come from a specific vendor. There are a lot of productive apps out there.

So you may just want to block Facebook applications created by one vendor, such as the game maker Zynga for example. You’ll typically find the app creator listed at the bottom of most applications, such as the game Mafia Wars.
block facebook games
In most cases, traffic for these games comes from the domain of that creator. In the case of Zynga, you can easily block all Zynga apps by adding the keyword “Zynga” to the URL block list in your router.

Steps To Retrieve Your Stolen Laptop

Contact the Police

Let’s be clear, the police won’t go out hunting for your laptop. However, when you file a report, depending on where you live the hardware information will be entered into a national database. And with that there is a slim chance that your laptop will be retrieved, since this database is typically checked by pawn shops and other dealers of used hardware.
More importantly, the police should be able to help you with the steps listed below, for example by telling you where to search for your laptop, which people to contact, and how to go about in general.

Inform Local Dealers, Repair and Pawn Shops

Contact any local shops that deal with used hardware, including repair and pawn shops. Give them a good description of identifiable physical features of your laptop, for example scratches, worn paint, cracks,

How To Automate Telnet Commands Using VB Script

Automate Your Telnet Job

There are basically two parts to this task. You need to establish the sequence of commands that you want to go through during the typical telnet session.

Here’s what I want to do. I have 5 devices throughout the network that can be remotely rebooted via telnet by issuing 4 simple commands. I have to first telnet to it using the IP address and a specific port. Next, a menu appears, and I have to first press enter.

Move Music from iPod to PC

ipod.jpgI’m a big fan of the iPod but what I don’t like is Apple not being very forthcoming about how to move music from the iPod back to the PC. They’re quick enough to tell you how to move the music from your PC to your iPod but when you want to do the opposite, Apple clams up tight.
Their reasoning is probably that the only reason you’d want to take your music off the iPod is to copy it and illegally distribute it. But that is really an insult to the music buyer. There are plenty of legitimate reasons why you would want to move your music from the iPod back to the PC. For a start, what if your hard-drive crashed and the only copies of the music were on your iPod? Or you accidentally deleted a song from your hard-drive and you wanted it back, without having to buy another copy?
It has taken me ages to work out how to get the music off the iPod and onto the computer but I have finally got it. This is how to do it on a Windows PC. Since I don’t have a Mac, I can’t help there.
The easy five-step guide to moving your music from your iPod to your PC
1. In Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options > View. In the Advanced Settings list, under Hidden files and folders, check the

Play PlayStation (PSX) Games on PC

Part One – PlayStation 1
A lot of people had fun with the first PlayStation, including me, and we can’t seem to get rid of it (in a good way). All of the original PlayStation games were playable on the PlayStation 2, and most of them on the PLAYSTATION 3. These days you can even play them on your PSP, so why not on our PC as well?
To play Playstation 1 games on your PC, you need to download a program called ePSXe.

Step 1 – Download and install ePSXe

The latest version can always be found here.
As there’s no installer, you just have to unzip it in the folder of your choice. You’ll also want some shortcuts, so right-click on the “˜ePSXe.exe’, “˜send to’ and choose “˜desktop’.

Step 2 – Getting the PSX’s BIOS

The installation is far from complete though, as this is only

Find Free Unlocking Codes For Mobile

Unlock It Free
This site is pretty basic and does exactly what it says on the tin – offers you free unlocking codes for mobile phones. It started out small and hasn’t really grown much. However, it does offer a good unlocking service if you own a Nokia; which are the easiest to unlock online by the way.
The homepage will welcome you and ask for the model number of your phone. Enter this into the box and click “˜find‘. For those of you who know diddly squat about cell phones the model number is that code that follows the name – for example; Nokia 6300.

You will then be brought to the window seen in the screenshot. In the appropriate boxes, enter in your IMEI number, phone model, country and service provider. You can get the IMEI number of your handset by typing *#06# on the

Partition An External Hard Drive

Open The Disk Utility Application

In order to prep things for your partition, it would be best
partition external hard drive to use an external hard drive that you absolutely do not have any important files on whatsoever. If you already have thrown some stuff in there (like I did when I was first trying this out), go ahead and copy them over to your computer. With that being said, make sure that the external hard drive is at least plugged in for this to work (the reason I say this is the same reason that costume companies write “cape does not enable wearer to fly” on their superhero outfits).
partition external hard driveIn case you have never used this app before, just go into your Mac’s Applications, click on the Utilities folder, and find the Disk Utility application. (For those of you still searching, it looks like a hard drive with a stethoscope on it.) Open it up, and you’ll be treated to a brand-spankin’ new window on your screen.

Change Windows 7 Logon Screen

Manually
Its is always nice to know how things work behind the scenes, what better way to do so then try them out yourself. To change the logon screen manually follow these steps:
  1. Fire up registry editor (Win Key + R and then type regedit, hit enter)
  2. Browse to HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAuthenticationLogonUIBackground, double click on key named OEMBackground and change its value to 1 (If you cannot find the path or the key go ahead and create it, remember OEMBackground is a Dword)
  3. You just enabled the OEM Background functionality. Now browse to the

Save Your Complete Facebook Chat History of all the time
